who is raiserwise

A smiling woman with long, red hair, blue eyes, red lipstick, and wearing a denim jacket against a blue background.

I’m Brit Hotaling, a fundraising strategist with nearly 15 years of experience in nonprofit development and leadership.

Raiserwise works with mission-driven organizations that want clearer strategy, stronger systems, and fundraising that is both effective and sustainable. My work focuses on helping teams move out of reaction mode and into thoughtful, well-structured fundraising that actually supports their mission rather than draining their staff.

I’ve partnered with nonprofits across a wide range of causes and organizational sizes, serving in senior development roles and advising teams through periods of growth, transition, and complexity. I bring a practical, steady approach to fundraising, grounded in ethics, data, and long-term thinking rather than trends or pressure tactics.

I’m a faculty member at The Fund Raising School at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and a contributor to the International Encyclopedia of Civil Society. I hold a Master’s degree in Philanthropic Studies and the CFRE, CFRL, CFRM, and CDFR credentials. My career includes leadership roles at organizations such as United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and Dorothy Day House, along with experience in mission-driven sales environments, which informs my ability to help teams adapt and execute in real-world conditions.

Clients often describe me as a steady presence in complex situations. I help teams find clarity in the noise, raise more money with less burnout, and build fundraising systems that can be maintained over time.

Raiserwise is built on the belief that fundraising is a professional discipline, not a personality trait. When organizations understand what they are doing and why, fundraising becomes more effective, more ethical, and far more sustainable.

If you’re looking for a thoughtful partner to help strengthen your fundraising practice, I’d be glad to connect.
